A Hopi Elder Speaks

With the shifts taking place in the world, the perspectives of this Hopi Indian Elder feel fresh and very relevant.  My wife, Toni, and I have felt inspired by these statements. We joyfully share them.

A HOPI ELDER SPEAKS – attributed to an unnamed Hopi Elder of the Hopi Nation in Oraibi, Arizona

“You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.  And there are things to be considered . . .

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.”

Then he clasped his hands together, smiled, and said:

“This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.  It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.  They will try to hold on to the shore.   They will feel they are torn apart and will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.  The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above water.   And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate.  At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves.  For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time for the lone wolf is over.  Gather yourselves!  Banish the word ‘struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary.  All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

Ho’oponopono by Dr. Hew Len

We are going through a time when many are upset and agitated about the direction of our government.  It feels like a good time to focus on peace, calm, and neutrality.  I am reminded of a powerful way of shifting that I have mentioned before and that is taught by Dr. Hew Len.  It is a Hawaiian ritual called Ho’oponopono.

The essence of it is that we are totally responsible for our own life and universe, and that we can use the world we are in as a mirror for learning where to focus on loving ourselves at a deeper level.

When we are bothered by or reacting to something outside of ourselves, we look for where/how/when we said/thought/or did the very same thing that is bothering us.  We then focus on loving and accepting ourselves for the very same thing.  It is as simple as expressing to ourselves, “Thank you, I love you!  I love you, thank you!”

YES, it is that simple!  And,it directly addresses what I believe is our biggest symptom…lack of self acceptance.

Following is an email conversation between Dr. Len and Joe Vitale, Author of “The Attractor Factor” and “Zero Limits”.  May it help bring some peace to you during what feels like a very volatile time!

Two years ago, I heard about a therapist in Hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients – without ever seeing any of them.  The psychologist would study an inmate’s chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person’s illness.  As he improved himself, the patient improved.

When I first heard this story, I thought it was an urban legend.  How could anyone heal anyone else by healing himself?  How could even the best self-improvement master cure the criminally insane? I t didn’t make any sense.  It wasn’t logical, so I dismissed the story.

However, I heard it again a year later.  I heard that the therapist had used a Hawaiian healing process called ho’oponopono. I  had never heard of it, yet I couldn’t let it leave my mind.  If the story was at all true, I had to know more.  I had always understood “total responsibility” to mean that I am responsible for what I think and do.  Beyond that, it’s out of my hands.  I think that most people think of total responsibility that way.  We’re responsible for what we do, not what anyone else does – but that’s wrong.

The Hawaiian therapist who healed those mentally ill people would teach me an advanced new perspective about total responsibility.  His name is Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len.  We probably spent an hour talking on our first phone call.  I asked him to tell me the complete story of his work as a therapist.

He explained that he worked at Hawaii State Hospital for four years.  That ward where they kept the criminally insane was dangerous.  Psychologists quit on a monthly basis.  The staff called in sick a lot or simply quit.  People would walk through that ward with their backs against the wall, afraid of being attacked by patients.  It was not a pleasant place to live, work, or visit.

Dr. Len told me that he never saw patients.  He agreed to have an office and to review their files.  While he looked at those files, he would work on himself.  As he worked on himself, patients began to heal.

“After a few months, patients that had to be shackled were being allowed to walk freely,” he told me.  “Others who had to be heavily medicated were getting off their medications and those who had no chance of ever being released were being freed.  I was in awe.  “Not only that,” he went on, “but the staff began to enjoy coming to work.  Absenteeism and turnover disappeared.  We ended up with more staff than we needed because patients were being released, and all the staff was showing up to work.  Today, that ward is closed.”

This is where I had to ask the million dollar question:  “What were you doing within yourself that caused those people to change?”

“I was simply healing the part of me that created them,” he said.  I didn’t understand.  Dr. Len explained that total responsibility for your life means that everything in your life – simply because it is in your life – is your responsibility.  In a literal sense, the entire world is your creation.

Whew.  This is tough to swallow.  Being responsible for what I say or do is one thing.  Being responsible for what everyone in my life says or does is quite another.  Yet, the truth is this: if you take complete responsibility for your life, then everything you see, hear, taste, touch, or in any way experience is your responsibility because it is in your life.  This means that terrorist activity, the president, the economy or anything you experience and don’t like – is up for you to heal.  They don’t exist, in a manner of speaking, except as projections from inside you.  The problem isn’t with them, it’s with you, and to change them, you have to change you.

I know this is tough to grasp, let alone accept or actually live.  Blame is far easier than total responsibility, but as I spoke with Dr. Len, I began to realize that healing for him and in ho’oponopono means loving yourself.  If you want to improve your life, you have to heal your life.  If you want to cure anyone, even a mentally ill criminal, you do it by healing you.

I asked Dr. Len how he went about healing himself.  What was he doing, exactly, when he looked at those patients’ files?

“I just kept saying, ‘I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you and I love you,’ over and over again”, he explained.  The shorter version of this is simply, “Thank you and I love you.”

“That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

Turns out that loving yourself is the greatest way to improve yourself, and as you improve yourself, you improve your world.

Let me give you a quick example of how this works: one day, someone sent me an email that upset me. I n the past I would have handled it by working on my emotional hot buttons or by trying to reason with the person who sent the nasty message.

This time, I decided to try Dr. Len’s method.  I kept silently saying, “Thank you and I love you.”  I didn’t say it to anyone in particular.  I was simply evoking the spirit of love to heal within me what was creating the outer circumstances.

Within an hour I got an email from the same person.  He apologized for his previous message.  Keep in mind that I didn’t take any outward action to get that apology.  I didn’t even write him back.  Yet, by saying “Thank you, I love you”, I somehow healed within me what was bothering him.

I later attended a ho’oponopono workshop run by Dr. Len.  He’s now 70 years old, considered a grandfatherly shaman, and is somewhat reclusive.  He praised my book, “The Attractor Factor”.  He told me that as I improve myself, my book’s vibration will raise, and everyone will feel it when they read it.

In short, as I improve, my readers will improve.

MIT Reunion Presentation on Mindfulness (video)

In early June, 2014, I had the wonderful opportunity to give a talk on mindfulness to 125 reunion attendees and staff of the Sloan School of Management at MIT. The focus was on how to increase mindfulness about how we cause our own energy to be strong or weak which, in turn, leads to dramatic increases in wellness and vitality.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of mindfulness is: The practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.

  • Selected Synonyms – awareness, cognizance, knowledge, notice, observation
  • Selected Related Words – discernment, perception, recognition, understanding

This is very similar to what we at Energetic Well Being™ mean by Neutral. I think of this as being about the most powerful place we can be energetically. When we are in this place we are present, involved, balanced, and not reacting to events or people or anything else going on around us.

A colleague and friend, Steve Dupre of NOW Energetics©, said: “Neutrality simply widens the playing field of possibilities – increasing our chances of experiencing a different outcome.”

During my talk, I gave illustrations of how greater mindfulness:

  • improved consulting projects in an earlier career.
  • helped make a good relationship with my wife great.
  • is making a big difference with clients everyday.

Then there were demonstrations with three volunteers from the audience who experienced increased wellness and vitality on the spot (back pain went away for one).

After the talk people kept coming up to me (and the Sloan School Staff) talking about how much they benefited from the experience.  A couple of those I worked on came up the next day to say how much better they were feeling.

During the weekend prior to and after the reunion, I conducted my first webinar of the Energetic Well Being Essentials Workshop©.

The participants included individuals from Norway, Germany, Australia, Canada and the U.S. (I continue to be amazed at and grateful for the power of the internet to connect us all).

A couple of the participants stated that their biggest challenge was realizing how simple it is to eliminate symptoms and get back to our natural state of wellness and vitality.

That’s what the Energetic Well Being Process is about!

Five Keys to Fast Energy Work by LeRoy Malouf

There are a number of energy work modalities that target and remove specific root causes of symptoms (of pain, illness, injury, sadness, anger, depression, stress, fear, etc.). At the same time they dramatically increase a clients internal support for reaching their desired state. Seeing people’s symptoms going away quickly is often startling, and results in a change in beliefs and mindset that most people need in order to shift from a problem/disease orientation to a focus on wellness.

The first key to helping energy shift quickly is to keep the work simple enough so that everyone can learn it. One approach that works is to help clients focus their energy along their mid line. This is not a transfer of energy from a practitioner to a client. It does not involve touch. It is an alignment of energy that eliminates symptoms.

An example is, George. George is a 65 year old who had Parkinson’s disease. When he arrived to participate in a two day energy clearing Workshop, he shuffled in – he was only able to move each foot about 4 inches – his arms and hands were locked in an upward position in front of his chest. He attended three workshops. During the first he began to walk normally. During the third he ran around the room and around the building.

The expectations for George were that he would have had the symptoms for life and that they would progressively get worse. Aligning George’s energy along his mid line eliminated his symptoms.

This leads to a second key to fast energy work – clear away everything you have learned, believed, experienced (in yourself and seen in others), and heard from experts and research. Remember that research is about what has happened in the past. Research on the quality of research shows that researchers find what they are looking for! Well designed and conducted research can be helpful in understanding what has happened. It can also lock in our beliefs about the past.

Expert diagnosis of symptoms is also about what is known from the past. The beliefs can become limitations and roots for our symptoms.

It is especially helpful for the client to be cleared of the old beliefs. George “knew” there was no cure for Parkinson’s. He was gradually degenerating along the lines of how everyone “knows” the history unfolds with people who have Parkinson’s.

Negative beliefs can be powerful – in the medical profession they are called Nocebos. Dr. Clifton Meador gives an example of a patient who had esophageal cancer. He states “Everyone in the medical profession knows that no one is cured from esophageal cancer”. The patient was treated, and died in a few weeks. The autopsy showed that there was no esophageal cancer in his body. The patient had two small cancers in other places, neither of which was enough to kill him.

Meador told the Discovery Health Channel “He died with cancer but not from cancer. I thought he had cancer. He thought he had cancer. Everybody around him thought he had cancer…did I remove hope in some way?”

Troublesome nocebo cases suggest that physicians, parents, and teachers can remove hope by programming you to believe you are powerless. Henry Ford was right about the efficiency of assembly lines and he was right about the power of the mind: “If you believe you can or if you believe you can’t…you’re right.” (From “The Biology of Belief” by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D.)

What really makes a symptom go away? The third key is to eliminate all the root causes underlying the symptom. A way of thinking about our symptoms is that they serve as wakeup calls in our lives. Imagine that our ailments and discomforts are created and supported by patterns of root causes, not unlike the roots of a hundred-year-old oak tree. These are energy blockages, consisting of conscious and non-conscious, overlapping layers of negative emotions (such as anger, frustration, impatience, fear), experiences, memories, traumas, reactions, beliefs (as described above), etc. They can be numerous and complex and limit the world we live in.

We have “learned” that our options are to reduce, suppress or “learn to live with our symptoms.” To our credit, we believe that our innate inner wellness over time will bring us back to health. Most of the time it does. But what happens when, as in George’s situation, the symptoms persist, even with the application of many modalities? From a wellness perspective, symptoms are not an isolated aspect of life. They are a person’s communication system saying, “There’s some pattern that needs to be taken care of!”

Different modalities that focus on eliminating root causes have a step-by-step protocol to identifying the causes. Then it is back to the first key – the client aligns their energy down their mid line to remove the causes.

A fourth key to fast elimination of symptoms is to clear away root causes at as general a level as possible, and only clear at a specific level if a symptom is not going away.

The temptation is to search for and clear every specific root possible that is causing a symptom. As various energy modalities have evolved we have learned that it is not necessary to go into such detail – it takes a lot of time. Some modalities focus on grouping symptoms, such as emotions, and clearing them all at once. This greatly speeds up the clearing process.

A fifth key is to clearly define a desired state and then to increase internal support for that state while in the process of removing root causes. For example, a desired state for an injured elbow might be one or more of: strength, stamina, flexibility, mobility, agility, or be able to do things I want to do. A clients energy guides which of these are relevant. Eliminating the root causes enables a client to regain and maintain their normal state of health, wellness, and vitality.

Applying these keys on a step-by-step basis, might go as follows:

To understand and experience, on a simple basis, rationally and intuitively a process of:

  • letting go of beliefs about what can and cannot be done,
  • understanding where our symptoms come from,
  • building belief and confidence that profound shifts can take place,
  • understanding how focusing along the mid line makes the energy strong and supports quickly eliminating symptoms.

To learn and use a rational step-by-step protocol for defining the symptoms, the desired state, and how to measure symptom intensity and progress.

To clear away the symptoms and build internal support for the desired state by mentally and intuitively:

  • finding and clearing away root causes at as general a level as possible,
  • finding and clearing away more specific roots as necessary,
  • checking progress and continuing clearing until the roots are cleared away and the person has full energetic support for their desired state.

Summary

Clearing Root Causes IS:

  • Focused on eliminating root causes of symptoms so they go away.
  • Simple and can be learned by all, including children.
  • Focused on putting a person in control of their own health and wellness – to eliminate their own symptoms without depending on anyone else.
  • Direct and non-invasive.
  • For all levels of being and consciousness.

Clearing Roost Causes IS NOT:

  • About reducing, suppressing, or learning to live with symptoms.
  • Achieved by long tedious hours of meditation, spiritual work, spiritual journey, training, or study.
  • Any nobler than fixing a car, remodeling a home, or debugging a computer.
  • Harmful – there are no side effects… the worst things that can happen is nothing.
  • A replacement for conventional and complementary modalities.

Energetic clearing of root causes helps create a major shift in perspective and well being. Profound improvement and rejuvenation become the norm!

Balance: Energetic Well Being Process by LeRoy Malouf

In removing symptoms, we activate the potential of our birthright as human beings.

The Energetic Well Being Process (EWBP) has been evolving since the early 70s. The Process focuses on healing memories and the whole human being, allowing growth beyond beliefs and limitations and thus, unleashing life-giving energy. The impetus for its development came from a powerful spiritual experience I had during my time at college, which has since guided my lifework in helping others. The Process originated from the lesson I learned then, that reality and unreality were reversed. My perceived reality was pain, self-judgment, lack of confidence, fear of others, and struggle to move forward. My discovery was that real life is joy, peace, love, power, perception and being one with a tremendous flow of love, grace and peace. I decided I wanted to live this powerful reality every day.

The EWBP is based on the premise that our natural state is health, wellness, and vitality. The biggest paradox about us human beings is that we don’t support what we say we want, and we don’t let go of what we don’t want. Our ailments and discomforts are created and supported by patterns of root causes and triggers, not unlike the roots of a hundred-year-old oak tree. These patterns are energy blockages. They consist of conscious and non-conscious overlapping layers of emotions, beliefs, experiences and memories which do not foster our well being – they limit the world we live in. They get in the way of what we want.

From stress to fatigue to loss of happiness and passion, to conditions such as cancer, our symptoms serve as wakeup calls in our lives. To our credit, we believe that our innate inner wellness over time will bring us back to health. And most of the time it does. But what happens when the symptoms persist or when they get worse even with the application of many modalities? From the perspective of this Process, my symptoms are not an isolated aspect.

Key benefits of the EWBP are to:

  • Continuously raise consciousness.
  • Eliminate common symptoms such as insomnia, fatigue, stress, depression, and pain.
  • Eliminate most symptoms immediately and others within a short time.
  • Increase energy, health, and vitality for all ages.
  • Become free of limitations that sap energy.
  • Build confidence and self reliance in meeting goals.
  • Be in charge of your own health and well being.
  • Enhance relationships at home and at work.
  • Become neutral to life’s issues and events – to live a life with joy and peace and without drama, reaction and upset.

All symptoms are approached from a very different perspective. The path – of health, prosperity, integrity, success, and freedom from stress and pain – is the birthright of every human being. Our plight in dealing with blocked energy is similar to chipping away at a frozen lake. Each layer you chip away exposes another layer. The more you chip away, the deeper you get until you find the deep water of being. We energetically peel away the outer layers of symptoms until we find and remove true causes. It is then that we reclaim our health, vitality and spirit.

Enhancing the health and wellness of ourselves and others is one of the most important things we can accomplish. It is hard to make the world better when we walk around from day-to-day with physical and emotional symptoms left untreated. Maximum wellness is achieved when people take responsibility for their own health. We can no longer afford to always look to someone else to fix us.

It is a manual to rejuvenate and unleash your health and spirit. Clients come from all ages, faiths, and persuasions! On the cutting edge of complementary methods, professionals such as nurses, teachers, energy workers, doctors and therapists find that EWBP tools are tremendous assets that are easily integrated into the services they provide.

I work with:

  • Individual clients (in person and by phone globally).
  • Couples.
  • Children.
  • Organizations.
  • Participants in workshops where they learn to use the EWBP for themselves and others.

“LeRoy isn’t just a teacher and practitioner, he is an experience – from the outside to the inside and all ways infinite. His expertise in working with people is palpable from the moment of being in his presence. His genuine longing to be of assistance to those he shares this planet with penetrates each encounter. It is his presence and his authenticity that bring wellness. Most certainly he also shares the wisdom of a method that also supports deep change. But I wouldn’t begin to separate his unique gifts from the methodology he brings forth. They all combine and the result is a blessing.” – Kent Hoffman, Student, Spokane, WA

Using a Small Trampoline For Exercise by LeRoy Malouf

I do farm maintenance and swim in the warmer months, but in the Winter, I tend not to get much aerobic exercise. I recently found a method of exercise that is fun, quick, and can be done regardless of the weather!

Rebounding is an incredible exercise that benefits the entire body! Rebounding effects every cell in our bodies, and allows our body parts and functions to become stronger, more flexible and healthier. Cells expand and contract through up and down movement, which creates a sort of cellular massage that increases circulation, breaks up blockages, opens blood vessels, improves lymphatic drainage and strengthens the cell membrane.

I recently found out that there is a tremendous difference in the quality of rebounders and mini-trampolines. They are not all the same by any means! I talked with Brian Calvi, and was educated on what makes a good rebounder, and the difference in the quality of exercise when using the right equipment. He introduced me to the Cellerciser, which I purchased and have been using for several weeks now. I am already noticing that I feel more agile, have increased stamina, and my entire body feels more relaxed. I’m also having fun using the Cellerciser.

Rebounding with the right piece of equipment can give a boost to your exercise regimen.

“Nocebos” by LeRoy Malouf

Negative beliefs can be just as powerful – in the medical profession they are called Nocebos.

Henry Ford was right about the efficiency of assembly lines and he was right about the power of the mind: “If you believe you can or if you believe you can’t…you’re right” (From “The Biology of Belief” by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D.).

One of the key benefits of energy work is to identify and remove limiting beliefs. There are numerous beliefs that we buy into, consciously and unconsciously. We are surrounded by them…as pervasive as the air we breathe. Numerous beliefs are based on research and expert opinion, or come to us through parents, teachers, peer groups, mentors, coaches….

From an energy perspective there is only one source of truth for each of us. The more we clear away our symptoms and support what we really want, the more confidence we have in our truth!
